Josh filmed this one-day documentary-style project entirely solo, capturing the complex removal of a mature common beech (Fagus sylvatica) tree beside a 350-year-old church. Despite appearing healthy, the tree had been compromised by a fungus that decays structural roots and can lead to sudden collapse. The decision was made to remove the crown to prevent potential damage, while preserving the trunk as a standing habitat.
To document the entire process, Josh used a mix of drone footage, timelapses, tripod, and handheld camera work - capturing the full scope of the operation from early morning rigging to the final cuts. The shoot required continuous attention and adaptability throughout the day, and stands as an example of what can be achieved with a one-person crew and a wide-ranging technical skillset.
